What is KPV?
KPV is a tripeptide composed of lysine (K), proline (P), and valine (V) — the C-terminal three amino acids of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), a naturally occurring pituitary and peripheral-tissue peptide with anti-inflammatory activity. KPV retains the anti-inflammatory signaling associated with its parent hormone in a much smaller molecule, without activating the melanocortin receptors responsible for alpha-MSH’s pigmentation and hormonal effects.
Benefits and Uses
Available research on KPV is concentrated in anti-inflammatory and gut-barrier signaling, with the honest framing that most of the supporting data comes from cell culture and animal models rather than large human trials:
- Inflammatory signaling. The core research finding; KPV has been studied for its ability to inhibit NF-κB activation, a central regulatory pathway for inflammatory gene expression, largely independent of melanocortin receptor binding.
- Gut barrier and intestinal inflammation. KPV is actively transported across cell membranes by the PepT1 di/tripeptide transporter, a property studied for its relevance to intestinal epithelial uptake and reduced inflammatory signaling in gut tissue models.
- Skin and topical inflammation. Research on alpha-MSH-related peptides more broadly has examined anti-inflammatory activity in models of contact dermatitis and other cutaneous inflammatory conditions.
- Broader immune modulation. KPV is studied as part of a wider family of alpha-MSH-derived anti-inflammatory peptides, alongside related fragments under investigation for comparable mechanisms.
Most KPV-specific data comes from cell and animal research; rigorous human clinical trials of the isolated tripeptide are limited, and this should be stated plainly rather than overextended.
How It Works
KPV acts intracellularly rather than exclusively at a surface receptor. Research indicates it stabilizes IκB-α, the cytoplasmic inhibitor that keeps NF-κB inactive, and interferes with the nuclear translocation of the NF-κB subunit p65 — a mechanism that shuts down inflammatory gene transcription upstream of where most receptor-targeted anti-inflammatory agents act. This intracellular, receptor-independent mechanism is part of why KPV has been studied across gut, skin, and systemic immune contexts rather than a single tissue type.
Dosage and Administration
No standardized dosing protocol exists for KPV outside of individual study designs, and any research protocol, route, or dose is determined solely by the licensed researcher or practitioner and their institution.
KPV’s PepT1-mediated transport has made it a subject of oral-route research in gut-inflammation models, alongside topical and injectable routes studied for systemic or localized effects. This reflects the range of study designs in the literature, not a recommendation for any particular route.
For labs converting a professional’s own determined research dose into an accurate reconstitution volume, CellGenic’s calculator tool is open to any visitor, with no account required.
Side Effects and Safety
KPV has shown a favorable tolerability profile in the published research, consistent with its small size and its origin as a natural hormone fragment. Long-term human safety data does not exist for the isolated tripeptide. Researchers should establish baseline laboratory values before and during any protocol.
Quality & Verification Standards
Every CellGenic lot is manufactured under cGMP conditions and undergoes mycoplasma, sterility, identity, and potency testing prior to release. Certificates of Analysis are issued per batch and can be retrieved directly using your batch number.
KPV in CellGenic's Protocols
Within CellGenic’s own provider protocols, KPV appears across several combined research bundles rather than as a single agent alone:
- Paired with LL-37, Thymosin Alpha-1, BPC-157, and TB-500 for biofilm, endotoxin load, and chronic-wound recovery research.
- Combined with Thymosin Alpha-1 and BPC-157 for TH1-shift, T-cell activation, and antiviral or oncology-adjunct research contexts.
- Layered with Thymosin Alpha-1 and BPC-157 for neuro-inflammation and neuropathic pain research support.
Providers building an immune- or inflammation-focused protocol can review the full pairings and their component products directly.
