Mechanism of Action

In placental therapy, extracts of placenta containing polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), enzymes, nucleic  acids, amino acids, peptides, vitamins, trace elements, minerals and growth factors are normally administered via intramuscular  injection. Administered placental extracts are readily absorbed by binding to specific receptors present on the surface of targeted  cells followed by stimulating inactive or damaged cells, tissues and organs in the body, thus providing tissue repair and  regeneration. In addition, placental extracts also exhibit  many other therapeutic properties and act as a stimulant for tissue repair, wound healing, immunomodulation, anti-inflammatory,  cellular proliferation and tissue regeneration.

Properties of Human Placenta

The placenta serves as a connection between the mother and fetus and delivers nutrients including  glucose, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals for fetal growth and development. These nutrients can also be retained  after delivery. Placental extracts contain various components such as collagen, elastin, laminin, nucleic acids, amino acids,  peptides, cytokines and growth factors. Previous research has investigated and documented the nutrient content and properties  of placenta.

NUCLEIC ACIDS: Placenta contains ribonucleic acid (RNA) and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) which can activate the  biosynthesis of nucleic acids. An active component extracted from placenta, Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), can  help in wound healing and treatment of ulcers, wounds, and scars. Stellar Biomolecular Research and Stellar  Biomolecular Innovations have developed a cold-enzymatic processing method to manufacture liquid forms of  placental extracts, which are widely used across 75 countries for various medical conditions. These extracts possess  high bioavailability due to their low molecular weight and linear size of the peptides.

AMINO ACIDS AND PEPTIDES: Amino acids are important nutrients during intrauterine life, and the placenta contains  both essential and non-essential amino acids which can stimulate fibroblast and collagen production and reduce skin  pigmentation. Stellar Biomolecular Innovations has incorporated placental peptides into its skin rejuvenation  formula, SPMCE, which has both aesthetic and therapeutic benefits for hypertrophic and keloid scars.

VITAMINS, MINERALS AND TRACE ELEMENTS: Vitamins, minerals, and trace elements are crucial for the health and  development of organs. The placenta contains vitamin B binding sites and extracts of placenta contain various  vitamins such as B1, B2, B5, B6, B7, B9, and B12 which are important for cell metabolism, division, development, and  energy production. Encapsulated placental extracts also contain minerals and trace elements including calcium,  copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, silicon, sodium, and zinc which are essential for  normal human development and functioning.

EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX COMPONENTS: The extracellular matrix (ECM) in the dermal layer is composed of collagens,  proteoglycans/glycosaminoglycans, elastin, fibronectin, laminins and other glycoproteins. The human placenta  contains collagens (type I, III, IV, V, VII, VIII and XVI, XVII), elastin, fibronectin and laminin. These components provide  structural integrity, tensile strength, elasticity, cell adhesion regulation, tissue development, cellular migration and  chemotaxis to surrounding cells.

CYTOKINES AND GROWTH FACTORS: Placental extracts contain cytokines and growth factors that act as messengers and  stimulate cellular response through autocrine, paracrine, and endocrine signaling. These growth factors regulate  growth, proliferation, migration, and differentiation of cells. Placental extracts contain G-CSF, GM-CSF, EGF, FGF,  HGF, IGF, PDGF, TGF, VEGF which have various physiological effects including immunomodulation, anti inflammatory, wound healing, cellular proliferation and regeneration.

Indications

Human Placenta Therapy is used to treat a variety of conditions, including musculoskeletal injuries, skin aging, and chronic pain. It is also an excellent tool to promote post-operative healing, improve immune function, and treat hormonal imbalances.

  • Wound healing: It contains a variety of growth factors, cytokines, and ECM proteins that promote wound healing  and tissue repair. Studies have shown that Human Placenta Therapy is effective in accelerating the healing of chronic  wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers.
  • Skin rejuvenation: The growth factors and ECM proteins found in human placenta have anti-aging effects and  promote skin rejuvenation. It is used as a treatment for wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of skin aging.
  • Sports injuries: It is used as a treatment for sports injuries such as muscle strains and ligament sprains. The growth  factors and cytokines found in human placenta help reduce inflammation and promote tissue repair.
  • Orthopedic conditions: It is used as a treatment for orthopedic conditions such as osteoarthritis and cartilage  damage. The growth factors and ECM proteins found in human placenta promote cartilage repair and reduce  inflammation.
  • Neurological conditions: It is used as a treatment for neurological conditions such as stroke and traumatic brain  injury. The growth factors and cytokines found in human placenta can promote neuro-regeneration and reduce  inflammation in the brain.
  • Musculoskeletal injuries: It is used as a treatment for musculoskeletal injuries such as tendonitis and sprains due to  its ability to reduce inflammation and promote tissue repair.
  • Chronic pain: It is used as a treatment for chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain due to  its ability to reduce inflammation and promote tissue repair.
  • To promote post-operative healing: It is used as a treatment to promote post-operative healing and reduce the risk  of infection and other complications.
  • Improve immune function: It is used as a treatment to improve immune function and reduce the risk of infections  and other immune-related conditions.
  • Treat hormonal imbalances: It is used as a treatment for hormonal imbalances such as menopause and polycystic  ovary syndrome (PCOS) due to its ability to regulate hormone levels and promote tissue repair.
